Firestorm Part Two

The Firestorms had their first game of the season this past Saturday. It was a sell-out crowd (well, as far as I know all the parents had paid their kids' fees to play. Some grandparents were there, but we all know they're freeloaders.) It was a tense pre-game atmosphere, filled with many strong glares between the opposing sides, followed by kool-aid checks and spit-combing the players' flyaway hair down. Here's our man of steel looking unblinkingly into the face of opposition. Well, to be honest, this was his first day in his brand new uniform and he wanted to look cool for his picture. And doesn't he? If you talk to him about the game you'll likely hear about the uniform long before he'll tell you about the game.

This is right in the midst of the action. The other team, the Bulldogs, were fierce competitors (well, not so much), but in the end we prevailed. The official policy of the league is not to keep score for kids this young but you know most of the parents were doing it. We won by about 16 to 3. Our team has two kids who must have been professional soccer players in their previous lives because they're straight up soccer MACHINES. Either one of them could play circles around me; however, to be fair it's been a good 23 years since I've done soccer. Justin put up a really strong effort. He had a sweet stop on their side and got the ball going in the right direction. He only had about a 5 minute break in the 40 minute game. He was an animal, although by the end he was dragging quite a bit. But in the end, victory. Not in the sense that we scored more points than they did, but because he played his heart out.
And what would a post be without an update on that webbed wonder Matthew? We caught this pic of the elusive superhero resting between bouts with nasty evildoers. Apparently the counter at our place is a bit more comfortable than the couch, floor, or even his bed, because look at the expression on his face. Criminals the world over had better beware: This kid takes no prisoners.
